We got our psychological evaluation done this afternoon. We called around to every office or center we could find and discovered that this is a fairly common procedure in international adoption today. The doctor who did ours said he did one recently for a couple who were on their second adoption from the same country. They didn't have to have it done the first time.
Anyway, it was a fairly painless procedure. He interviewed both of us separately, then he had us take a personality test that looked for any psychological issues we may have. He plugged our answers into the computer, and it spat out our results. Now he's going to write a letter for each of us that explains what he did and the results, get it notarized, and we'll be able to pick it up in a day or two.
There's been a lot of talk online about whether this has to be done and who it has to be done by. All I know is that our agency told us to do it this way, and that's what we're doing. It can't hurt, right? Unless, of course, it turns out that we are not mentally stable enough to be parents.

I would be too scared to take that test!! My dad is a psychologist and I already know that I am mentally challenged!! hahahaha!
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I are looking into doing an adoption from Nepal and I was wondering what agency you are using? We have adopted from China and loved our agency, but they don't work in Nepal.
ReplyDeleteI'll be praying the wait won't be long to be matched!
